South recognizes student scholars

South recognized 210 students at its annual scholars night last Wednesday, Oct. 16. The evening celebrated both students with perfect attendance and those who earned a merit award or academic letter.

To earn a merit award one must achieve a 3.3-3.699 GPA for the 2018-2019 school year; and for an academic letter, students are required to have a 3.7 or above for the school year.

Junior Josie Patil said, “It’s cool that school recognizes people even if they don’t quite have the grades to get an academic letter, but are still trying.”

As well as honoring the students, principal Mike Hinze, honored the late Thomas Brown with a moment of silence. Brown was a first year Special Education teacher here at Westerville South.

The ceremony concluded with Hinze inviting the families and honorees to enjoy refreshments in the commons.
