After a rigorous year, the Volleyball team closed out their season with their final game being their first tournament game with a loss to Thomas Worthington, on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021.

Nonetheless, they finished out their season with a 10-11 record, with placing 5th overall in their conference.

This was coach, Summer Hale’s first year as head coach after spending her time as assistant coach. She found this transition easier due to her players, since they got along very well, and there was little drama on the team.

Senior captain Colleen Morrison’s view on her position was that it was an honor her teammates chose and believed in her to be a leader for them.

Some of the season’s favorite moments were shared amongst the team. Hale, Morrison, as well as Juniors, Lauryn Bowie and Nelia Guice, all shared that one of their favorite moments included running out on senior night.

Bowie shared, “When we ran out on senior night and felt the support, it was a bittersweet moment.”

Hale and Guice also shared another common season highlight, which was the second time they played Westerville North, which ended in a Lady Cat’s win, in three sets.
Hale shared that it was one of her highlights due to the consistency and their drive to finish out the game, not getting caught up on mistakes as well as playing the full game completely from beginning to end.

With the dynamic changing due to the seniors leaving, Bowie, Guice, and Hale all want the passion and determination to be a consistent trait for the next season and for years to come.

As these seniors depart, Juniors will have to take on new roles and responsibilities. For Bowie and Guice, next year they want to be able to be a good influence on their teammates as well as a person that they can come to.

As graduation comes closer, Morrison plans on going to college and pursuing the medical field.

As players grow and learn in the game, Hale hopes her players take things from her for both on and off the court including  “leaving things better than you found them” which Hale added isn’t just in the locker room or the bleachers. She also hopes the girls continue to implement being a nice and kind person, and being able to work well with others.
