Westerville South has completed their 27th year working with Caring & Sharing and providing christmas for families who wouldn’t have been able to have one otherwise. The goal was set at $10,000 for the 2018-2019 school year. Students raised an amazing $12,679.56 for the charity and shopped for 67 children as well as giving 51 $100 gift cards to families for food. John Laswell’s homeroom raised the most for the charity with a total of $2,330.55.

Westerville city schools raise an average of $35,000 every year. According to Mary Pugh, a Caring and Sharing member,  “there are many different ways that money is raised outside of schools. Church groups, Scout groups, Clubs, Civic Groups, Individual donations, ect”. All of the donations go to families in the westerville school district. 4,500 students are on free or reduced lunch and many of them receive help from Caring and Sharing during the holidays.

Pugh said, “Besides gifts, food is our most needed item, when students are out of school on break they are missing the two meals received at school.” She continued on to say that students are welcomed to hold food drives and donate the food to the families.
