Wildcat Boys Basketball season recap
March 9, 2021
Wildcat Boys Basketball has faced more challenges related to the pandemic than any of the other South athletic teams. Due to covid delays, restrictions, and quarantines, the team has missed many opportunities to play basketball.
The South Basketball Twitter page stated, “11 games had to be canceled and the team missed 63 days due to covid.”
Due to the most recent COVID delay, the Wildcats had a mix of JV and Varsity players playing together against Franklin Heights on Feb. 12 and won 52-42 on Ed Calo Court.
The team consisted of Varsity players Peter Pedrozo and Drey Carter, as well as the full Junior Varsity team.
“It was a very unique experience getting to coach up the younger players and learning their play styles and trying to adapt my own play-style to benefit the team. Said Pedrozo.
The end of the 2020-2021 season was a mix of regular-season and tournament games; the Wildcats played Worthington Kilbourne on Feb.19, who was ahead of South in the conference.
Going into tournament play, the ‘Cats were 9-2 overall and 8-2 in the conference, which resulted in a 1st place tie between South and the Wolves of Worthington Kilbourne.
The post-season tournament began on Feb. 23, with the Wildcats playing Westerville North, after North beat Grove City.
The game was the third meeting between North and South this season.
North beat South on Jan. 23, senior night, with a final score of 69-66. South was able to bounce-back less than a week later and beat North 55-37.
South was able to defend their home court against the Warriors and pulled off a win with a final score of 52-37, leaving South the champions of the sectional tournament.
