Boys Lacrosse team’s first winning season
April 23, 2021
The Westerville South boys lacrosse team’s season is well underway. The boys opened their season on March 13 against Johnathan Alder, and are currently 6-3 on the season.
The team had victories over teams like rival Westerville North, who was once ranked fourth in the state.
“We scored with just under a minute left to go ahead 6-5 with a beautiful shot from Andy Badu to beat North,” said Senior Sam Swisher.
While the team has had a few injuries, they have been able to continue to win games. Swisher added that “this is the first winning season in the South Lacrosse Program!”
The team’s success comes from each individual member of the team, Coach Reston Randall said.
“We have a lot of really great athletes and younger players on the team,” Randall explained.
One of the team’s biggest losses comes from Worthington Kilbourne, another member of the OCC-Capital Division, which also includes Westerville North, Canal Winchester, Big Walnut, Delaware Hayes, Franklin Heights, and Dublin Scioto.
Despite the loss and several injured players, Randall said “a lot of younger players are having to take on big roles and are learning a lot.”
Senior Donnovan Hunt said that in order to prepare for games the team is watching film and practicing for each team.
Randall said it is “very rewarding to see how these guys get to make friends, spend time together, and grow as lacrosse players and as individuals throughout the season.”
