Wildcat Sophomore Embraces School Involvement
October 7, 2021
Sophomore Nabiha Mohamud may not describe herself as a first-class time manager, but going through her list of activities and accomplishments definitely makes her qualified and serves as an inspiration.
Mohamud’s involved with a lot of activities, from the Wildcat Today to being a published poet; her long list of accomplishments is yet to end.
“I have trouble balancing things and not knowing when to stop the things I’m juggling,” Mohamud said. She is constantly wanting to do more and more.
Mohamud has been doing announcements for three years now, only taking it seriously in her high school years. She is considering a career in news broadcasting, having enjoyed working on Wildcat Today. She enjoys the collaboration with everyone and the program overall. She said it has been a pretty good experience.
Mohamud joined the Global Scholars program after talking to a former student who received a full scholarship. She has her eyes set on an ivy league school; she is considering going into some sort of foreign relations and political science. She also enjoys collaboration and interaction with different communities, making the program a great fit for her.
“I also maybe want to go into foreign relations and political science, and I thought it [Global Scholars] was a great way with interacting with different communities,” Mohamud said.
She describes herself as having a love of poetry, even wanting to start a poetry club here at South. She has an interest in literature, describing it as an escape to somewhere quiet and calm. As a kid, she anxiously awaited her Hogwarts letter and liked authors such as Colleen Hoover.
Mohamud gained an interest in poetry during COVID. Starting with videos of open note poetry and steadily progressing her way to having her very own poetry published. She’s used her love of the craft to reflect upon herself, saying “It’s what spoken word poetry made me realize it’s okay to not be like at your best or it’s okay to not be your best,”
Though Mohamud has an extensive list of activities, coming from a family with five kids, rides to different activities can be a struggle. She has been wanting to join the theater troupe, but hasn’t had the chance.
“ And I really want to do theater, I’ve been wanting to do that since sixth and it hasn’t been working out,” Mohamud said.
