Girls Volleyball
The Girls Varsity volleyball team continued their winning from last week to start this week off on Sept. 8, when they defeated Watkins Memorial in a 3-0 victory. On Sept. 9, they won yet again 3-0. against Westland.
Boys Soccer
The JV Boys Soccer team defeated Westerville North at home on Sept. 8, 2-0. They won again on Sept. 11, against Delaware Hayes 3-1. They are currently on a three game win-streak and have an impressive 6-1-2 record on the year.
Football
On the football field on Sept. 12, things were tense. Junior Ethan Rozen scored the only points of the half with a 23-yard field goal that came off an interception from junior Andre Braxton. Senior Jhalil Armstrong would get another interception the following drive, but South would fail to score on that drive.
The halftime score was 3-18, and things were not looking hopeful for the Wildcats. In the third quarter, Armstrong rushed 1-yard for a touchdown and Rozen made the extra-point which made the score 10-18. To start the fourth quarter, Rozen would kick a 32-yard field goal to make the score 13-18.
With around four minutes left in the game, senior Evan Andrews rushed 1-yard for a touchdown and made the score 19-18 with the Wildcats in the lead. As Dublin Scioto was looking to regain their lead, sophomore Eric Smoot recovered a fumble to give the Wildcats the ball back, deep inside Scioto territory. This gave Armstrong the position to rush for a 15-yard touchdown which made the score 26-18 after Rozen made the extra point.
As Scioto was looking to tie the game, Senior Ja’Mari Alston got an interception with only about a minute remaining. Dublin Scioto was able to utilize their timeouts and get the ball back for one final play, but their pass was batted down and the Westerville South Wildcats pulled off an incredible comeback win with a final score of 26-18.

Cross Country
On Sept. 13, the WSHS Cross Country team traveled to Dublin Jerome High School for another race. The first race was the girls’ open race, led by junior Rebecca Koval in 21st place with a time of 22:32, senior Roxana Uddin in 28th place with a time of 23:18, and freshman Auden Kontura in 59th place with a time of 25:54.
Next up was the boys’ open race, where sophomore Simeon Epting led the pack for the Wildcats in 18th place with a personal record of 18:43, sophomore Charlie Nickoli in 34th place with a time of 19:29, and junior Jeffrey Odoi in 43rd place with a time of 19:42.
The next race, the girls varsity race, began late in the night and was led by sophomore Katelyn Hogenbirk in 38th place with a time of 19:34, senior Sofie Lofton in 67th place with a time of 20:10, and senior Ziriah Johnson in 88th place with a time of 20:38.
The last race of the night was the boys varsity race in which junior Willis Guard-Batchelder led the race for Westerville South in 27th place with a time of 16:17. Junior Chase Crawford was not far behind in 32nd place with a time of 16:23. Senior Colin Lundy was next in 97th place with a time of 17:28. The two varsity races took place at 9:00 and 9:30 PM and they both finished under the football stadium lights.
