Liezle Heath, a junior in Advanced Painting Two showcases their “Macro Painting” prompted by painting teacher Mrs. Langston.
Langston comments- “Liezle worked incredibly hard on this piece and it shows. The attention to detail and shifting of values with the use of acrylic paint is fabulous!”
Heath used acrylic paint to illustrate this piece. Their inspiration comes from renaissance paintings further stating,
“I chose grapes because I love how smooth and buttery they are”.
This piece shows great technical skills though the lighting and proportion. Adding highlights while keeping the painting smooth is challenging. Heath notes they struggled the most in getting the shape of the grapes correct and accurately depicting the temperatures of the grapes with the shades of green. However, they’re pleased with their results. “I like the sub surface scattering through the grapes, you can see the dimensions of the grapes through the lighting”.
Liezle Heath has been making art “since they could hold a pencil” and enjoys a variety of mediums. “I recently have been interested in oil pastels, but gouache is fun and I like oil paint too”. Not only is Heath in Advanced Painting Two, but they are also in IB art, hoping to continue down this path for their future.
