Students receive their first meningitis shot in 7th grade, but as seniors, students are required to get a booster shot. This booster is mandatory to attend school because meningitis is highly contagious and spreads very quickly.  According to the CDC, teens are at a higher risk of getting it.

Meningitis is a bacterial meningitis which can cause a very dangerous  inflammation of the fluid and membranes surrounding your brain and spinal cord. 

Linda Davis, WSHS school nurse commented, “The Ohio Department of Health requires students to take the Meningitis booster to help with their immunity. As with other required vaccines, students have to show documents that they were vaccinated or will be excluded from school if they don’t show documentation within the first 14 school days.”

   Senior Susan Firth said, “When I got my shot, it was easy and painless, and I didn’t get any negative effects.”
