Sophomore Evan Gunther spends his school days like most people; he goes to class, learns, then goes home. But when Gunther gets home, he bakes!
Brownies, cookies, waffles, scones, you name it, and he can make it, but his very favorite thing to bake is cake. Molly Niewenhous, Gunther’s friend, said Gunther frequently brings the things he bakes to school to share with his friends.

“Evan’s cake is like a million out of ten. He brings little tins of his baked goods to school, and he shares it with everyone at the table,” she said.
He’s able to bake whenever he wants. “Normally, I would say that I bake a cake about every other week, but that’s not including when I make something for class or for my friends. Honestly, there is no real pattern. I just bake whenever I feel like it,” he said.
Gunther likes the aspect of experimenting with his baked goods. He loves to do original things with his baking. “I like to experiment with recipes and different frostings the most. I’ve made cake with pancake mix, and many other weird things that people don’t normally think of using,” he explained.
Gunther doesn’t only bake for his own enjoyment; he bakes for his friends, and the people around him. His friend, sophomore Aubrey Ting, told the story of her birthday just last month.
“When I got to lunch, Evan had put out three big vanilla cakes on the lunch table that he had made all by himself. He baked them all so that the entire table could share and celebrate my birthday with me,” Ting said.
Gunther shared, “Being able to make food that will make my friends happy, while also having fun making it, is an amazing feeling. I can’t imagine quitting anytime soon.”
