The Athlete of the Week for Sept. 22 is Junior Volleyball player Janele MacClements.
MacClements has been a very crucial part of the team for the Lady Wildcats with 29 kills, 22 aces, 9 blocks, 95 digs, 239 assists. Helping the team cruise to a 10-8 record.
Last week the team had two very big games v.s. Big Walnut and Westerville North. The Wildcats lost a very tight game to Big Walnut 3-2 and dominated North in a 3-1 win on their Senior night. With MacClements playing a crucial role in those games.
“I feel like my performance last week was pretty good, I thought I played hard, had good energy and played through good and bad,” she said.
There are five seniors in the 26’ class and MacClements has been playing alongside them for a while now, so it is going to be very hard for her to say goodbye to them. She stated, “I’m going to miss this group of seniors a lot, I’ve played with most since 7th grade so it’ll be weird next year without them.”
The Wildcats have gone 2-0 against North this year, with two dominant wins. One beating them 3-0 and the other 3-1. In their second matchup it was North’s senior night.
“Beating North both times we’ve played them has been so fun, especially beating them on their senior night again,” she said.
The season is coming to an end and the Lady Cats are sitting at a 11-8 record, inching towards playoffs. They currently are 2-0 against Westerville opponents and play Westerville Central on the football field Monday, Oct. 6. This is a very important game as it decides who “rules the ville”, which many would say is one of the most important things in all of Westerville sports and the team has been preparing accordingly.
“We have been working hard at practice, and we’ve been working on keeping our energy up constantly through ups and downs, because that helps our team’s morale and we’ve been looking forward to playing Central on the field all season,” MacClements said.
Playing a sport at the next level is a very big goal for many highschool athletes, including MacClements. She is very kean on playing in college, stating, “I see myself playing in college hitting the right side and setting.”
Thank you to everyone who voted for Athlete of the Week and congratulations to MacClements, and good luck with the rest of your season and school year.
