Senior Kylee Bolen presents their portrait work of “Pattie Boyd” for Advanced Painting One. Bolen used acrylic paint on 18×36 paper and chose Boyd for her “aesthetic vibe” as a 1960’s model.
Mrs. Langston, Bolen’s Painting teacher, commented on her piece, “I think Kylee did an awesome job with this large-scale portrait done in acrylic. She really worked to edit and revise the accuracy of the skin tone over multiple weeks, and I am proud of her finished outcome.”
Bolen explained, “I think it has a resemblance to the photo, though the facial anatomy is a little off, specifically the nose.”
They struggled most with the face and found blending acrylic paint to be a challenge.
However, Bolen enjoyed painting the hair and said it’s what they’re most proud of. “ I liked how the hair turned out stylistically.”
Bolen takes Advanced Painting One, and IB Art at Westerville South, though they prefer making art outside of school. Bolen’s favorite medium is digital art using Procreate, and takes inspiration from artists like Tsubasa Yamaguchi.
Bolen hopes to one day become a manga artist going through school at Columbus College of Art & Design in the near future.
