LeBron James is an African American basketball player in the NBA, and he currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. But, his impact goes beyond basketball.
James has been a big advocate for the Black community, pushing to support not only black people but people in need, in every way he can. He has started many foundations such as the “I Promise” school, which he opened in his hometown of Akron, OH.
The school provides a comprehensive, supportive educational environment, including meals and guaranteed college tuition for students who might not be as fortunate.
He also formed More Than A Vote. This organization was used to advocate for black communities to show them how important their vote is and why it matters; they also helped to fight against systematic voter suppression.
I chose LeBron James because not only is he one of the greatest athletes of all time, with four NBA championships, four NBA MVP awards, and a three time gold medalist, but he’s also a great inspiration to so many.
As a Black man and athlete in America, he embodies the idea of not letting anyone stop you from doing what you love and being who you want to be.
