Prom season is finally here, and excitement is starting to build in students. Preparing for prom is arguably one of the most memorable moments of some people’s lives. From finding the perfect outfits, to planning pictures with friends, the countdown to prom has finally started.
This year’s prom will be on May 9, giving students plenty of time to start preparing. It will take place at Villa Milano in Columbus, the same place it has been for years. The official theme is “Midnight in the Milky Way,” which promises students “a night in the stars,” according to Dalia Ozuna, a junior member of the student council.
When students walk through the doors, they will be dazzled with a beautiful scene. Ozuna also explained that the decor will be a blue-purple color scheme. Decoration will be created by the student council members themselves, along with advisors. This is done every year, and adds a touch of personality to the prom experience.
Now when it comes to outfits or fashion, students have full freedom to express themselves, although the theme features specific colors. Ozuna shared that she believes students should “wear whatever you want, don’t let the theme force you or make you wear something specific, feel free to be you.”
Tickets are $60 similar to the last few years. However, one change is that dinner will not be provided or catered; instead the funds will go towards covering the cost of decorations, music, entertainment, and the venue.
Students have had mixed reactions to this change.
Senior Elijah Burney said he still plans on attending, explaining that since it’s his last year he wants to “make the most memories.” He’s looking forward to taking pictures with friends.
He also shared that he likes this year’s theme and color scheme, especially since he was already planning on wearing purple.
Senior Amaya Quander had a similar opinion on the excitement, rating her anticipation an 8 out of 10 and saying she’s looking forward to getting ready, taking pictures, and spending time with friends during their final prom.
Opinions on ticket prices, however, were more divided. Both Quander and another senior, Leinna Mack are concerned about the price, especially with food not being included. Mack explained that it feels frustrating to pay nearly the same amount as last year when dinner was part of the experience.
Quander also mentioned disappointment, joking that not having food makes the event feel like students are expected to “pay more for less.”. Alternatively, Burney felt the cost was still reasonable compared to previous years.
Even with the mixed opinions on details like pricing and the absence of food this year, students are still looking forward to prom as a final celebration of their high school journey. For many students, it represents more than just a dance but a chance to spend time with friends, taking pictures, and creating lasting memories before graduation.
As the date gets closer, excitement is rising as students anticipate experiencing their last high school dance.
