Black Friday is the big shopping day right after Thanksgiving, famous for huge sales and packed stores. The name, however, started in the 1960s when Philadelphia police used “Black Friday” to describe the wild traffic and crowds. Later, stores gave it a positive spin, saying it was the day their profits skyrocketed. Now it is a full on shopping tradition, and sometimes even a sport.
